AI video credits are a platform’s units for paying for generation and related processing. A credit balance tells you how much work you can request. It does not tell you how many finished clips you will keep. To budget accurately, combine the quoted cost of your exact settings with the number of attempts you expect to need, then include editing, upscaling and any unused allowance.
A plan can look generous until one difficult shot eats the budget. This guide separates three numbers that often get blurred together: credits per attempt, credits per approved clip and money paid per delivered clip. Prices and credit rules below were checked against official sources on September 7, 2026.
What Does an AI Video Credit Buy?
Think of credits as a platform-specific meter. The same number can buy different durations, resolutions or operations even within one account. On another service, it may represent a completely different amount of work. Comparing plans by the largest credit balance alone is like comparing batteries by the number printed on the box without checking the unit.
Higgsfield documents the generation quote on its Generate button. Its credit system accounts for the selected model, resolution and duration. Before confirming, also check the output count and whether you are generating, editing or upscaling: a familiar-looking button can start a different billable operation.
A batch is another easy budget trap. Higgsfield’s credit-usage guide says that each output in a batch is charged separately. One prompt requesting four outputs is not necessarily one generation’s worth of credits. Use the displayed total for the batch; do not multiply it a second time.
Nor is there a universal dollar value for one credit. Subscription credits, purchased top-ups and promotional allowances can have different effective costs and expiry rules. An API price per second is a separate offer again. Our Seedance 2.5 pricing guide is useful when a model appears through more than one access route.
Model, duration, resolution and operation determine the displayed quote.
Batch outputs may be charged separately even when they share one prompt.
One credit has no universal dollar value across providers or purchase types.
Calculate a Budget for the Clips You Will Actually Use
Start with the deliverable: how many clips must be approved, at what length and quality? Then reserve an attempt budget for each shot. If you have no history yet, write down a conservative assumption and adjust it after a small pilot. Do not call that assumption a measured success rate.

}A $15 Example, With the Assumptions Left In
Runway Standard costs $15 on monthly billing and includes 625 credits; its published Gen-4.5 rate is 60 credits for five seconds. With no other spending, that allowance covers 10 complete five-second attempts and leaves 25 credits. It does not guarantee 10 publishable videos.
Suppose you make those 10 attempts, use no other paid tools and approve five clips. This is an illustrative scenario, not a Runway test result. Generation consumes 600 credits, or 120 credits per approved clip. The month costs $15, so allocating the whole subscription to those five clips gives a $3 cash cost per delivered clip.
There is another useful accounting view: $15 ÷ 625 = $0.024 per included credit. Allocating only the 600 consumed credits gives $14.40, or $2.88 per approved clip. The remaining $0.60 is the allocated value of the unused 25 credits. This is not a cash refund or a top-up price. If the subscription also produces images or other assets, allocate the bill across those outputs instead.
For a multi-shot piece, budget each shot separately. A difficult character close-up can have a different acceptance rate from a static product insert. The workflow for long videos with consistent characters helps you plan shot boundaries before you commit credits to an entire sequence.
Current Plan Prices and Included Credits
Checked September 7, 2026. These are individual web-subscription examples, not API prices. Monthly prices below mean monthly billing. Annual equivalents are listed separately and require annual billing. Credit totals are allowances, not output-quality guarantees; check local taxes, promotions and the final checkout total.
Higgsfield
The current Higgsfield pricing page lists the following monthly options. Ultra has multiple allowance selections; this table uses the 3,000-credit selection.
| Plan | Monthly bill | Credits / month |
|---|---|---|
| Starter | $15 | 200 |
| Plus | $49 | 1,000 |
| Ultra | $129 | 3,000 |
The annual comparison lists Plus at $39 per month, billed annually. That is a $468 annual commitment by arithmetic, not a $39 month-to-month purchase. Plan access differs as well as allowance: confirm that the model and mode you need are included before choosing the lowest tier.
Runway
On Runway pricing, the monthly-billing choices are Standard, Pro and Max. Its free tier has 125 one-time credits; it is not a recurring monthly allowance.
| Plan | Monthly bill | Credits / month |
|---|---|---|
| Standard | $15 | 625 |
| Pro | $35 | 2,250 |
| Max | $95 | 9,500 |
Standard’s annual option is $12 per month, billed annually, equivalent to $144 for the year. The listed allowance remains 625 credits per month. A yearly payment does not mean you can spend the whole year’s allowance immediately.
Pika
The monthly toggle on Pika pricing shows these allowances. Basic’s free access is limited to the resolutions and features specified on that plan.
| Plan | Monthly bill | Credits / month |
|---|---|---|
| Basic | $0 | 80 |
| Standard | $10 | 700 |
| Pro | $35 | 2,300 |
| Fancy | $95 | 6,000 |
Pika Standard is also listed at $8 per month, billed yearly, equivalent to $96 for a year. Again, compare the billing commitment and usable workflow, not just the monthly-looking price beside the plan.
How Settings Change the Credit Quote
Duration and resolution can both matter, but there is no reliable universal multiplier. Price the actual combination you will use. The examples below use each platform’s own credit unit and the exact scope its official table describes; they are not a quality ranking or a claim that one platform is cheapest.
Higgsfield lists these five-second examples. The Kling figures are approximate, as marked by the provider. A selected tool’s quote may reflect options or offers beyond the comparison table.
| Model | 720p / 5s | 1080p / 5s |
|---|---|---|
| Kling 3.0 | ~7 credits | ~8 credits |
| Wan 3.0 | 8.75 credits | 17.5 credits |
For Pika Model 2.5 text-to-video and image-to-video, the public rate table lists four useful combinations. These values do not apply to every Pika editing tool or effect.
| Duration | 720p | 1080p |
|---|---|---|
| 5 seconds | 20 credits | 40 credits |
| 10 seconds | 40 credits | 80 credits |
Runway lists Gen-4.5 at 12 credits per generated second, or 60 credits for a five-second clip. Its pricing page also lists other models with different billing units. Keep model, operation, duration and output settings attached to every number you record.
A lower-resolution pilot can help you judge framing and motion before a more expensive pass. It cannot prove that a later generation will preserve the exact same content. If continuity is essential, decide how you will retain the reference, composition and accepted footage; our AI video consistency guide covers those production choices.
Check Expiry, Failed Jobs and Unlimited Access
Subscription, top-up and promotional balances can use different clocks.
Check the ledger before retrying; a disliked completed result is not a failed task.
Model, quality tier, active period, queue and access route remain conditions.
Monthly Credits and Top-Ups Can Have Different Clocks
Higgsfield’s official credit rules say individual subscription credits do not roll over. Monthly plans reset with a paid renewal; annual-plan credits reset every 30 days. Subscription credits are spent first, then other eligible balances are used in expiry order.
According to its top-up expiry policy, Credit Pack and Auto-Refill credits expire 90 days after purchase. They require an active subscription to be used. If a subscription ends, the remaining validity timer continues; restarting the subscription does not restart that timer. Promo credits use the expiry date attached to the offer.
Runway has a different rollover policy: Standard and Pro credits reset without rollover, Max can carry up to one month of unused credits into the following month, and additionally purchased credits do not expire. Runway’s minimum additional-credit purchase is 1,000 credits. Do not transfer these rules to another provider’s top-ups.
A Failed Task Is Different From a Result You Dislike
Check task status and the credit ledger before pressing Generate again. Higgsfield’s credit FAQ says failed jobs usually receive an automatic credit return within a few minutes, but it explicitly notes that specific models might not refund failed generations. Confirm the return in Manage Account, then Usage. A completed clip that fails your creative review should remain in your budget unless the provider actually returns its credits.
Keep the task ID and the original settings when something stalls. A browser timeout or a local download error does not establish that the server stopped generating. Check the existing job before submitting a replacement. For a systematic diagnosis, use our guide to AI video generation failures.
Unlimited Is an Eligibility Rule, Too
Higgsfield Unlimited applies to eligible models and quality tiers for specified periods. Its help page ties access to an active subscription and distinguishes standard-queue Unlimited generation from priority-queue Credit Mode. During high load, speed and concurrency can vary. A short promotional window is not a promise of permanent access.
The same documentation says Unlimited and free-generation benefits apply on higgsfield.ai; MCP, CLI, Canvas and Supercomputer requests consume credits. Check the route as carefully as the model. If your production workflow relies on automation, a web-only Unlimited offer may not cover the work you are budgeting.
Give Each Shot a Brief and a Stop Rule
Before your next paid generation, write down what makes the shot acceptable. For a simple product insert, that might mean the full object stays visible, its shape remains stable, only the intended element moves and the clip can be cut cleanly into the edit. These criteria make the first review useful even when the result is not ready.
- Define the acceptance target: specify the clip anchors, intended motion, final placement and known failure modes before submitting.
- Set a credit ceiling: stop when the next attempt has no named improvement or the shot reaches its limit.
- Review against one standard: accept or reject with the same criteria, then record spend after the ledger settles.
The mug example uses a deliberately small test: keep the cup and handle stable while steam moves. That is easier to evaluate than a prompt demanding a moving camera, a hand pouring tea, changing lighting and a scene transition all at once. Our list of common AI video mistakes can help turn a vague rejection into a specific correction.
If most of a clip already works, decide whether the remaining issue belongs in an edit instead of a fresh generation. The relevant question is whether the repair meets the brief for less total effort and spend, not whether another Generate click is convenient. Explore video-to-video workflows when you want to work from existing footage; check that route’s own quote before running it.
Choose the Route That Fits Your Production Budget
Buy around a repeatable workload: the shots you need, their quoted cost, a realistic attempt allowance and the time you can spend in a queue. Start with a small pilot while those numbers are uncertain. Annual billing can lower the displayed monthly equivalent, but a discount does not compensate for an unsuitable model or credits you cannot use before expiry.
A multi-model service may be worth comparing when your projects need different tools and you want to evaluate them from one account. Our Higgsfield alternatives article provides that broader comparison. Treat it as a route decision, then verify the price and task settings of the option you choose.
Use the exact model, mode, duration, resolution and output count.
Track attempts per keeper before making a larger billing commitment.
Choose web, API or multi-model access from observed workload and queue needs.
You can open GlobalGPT and compare a video workflow before committing to a larger production run. Use the platform’s quote for the specific request and keep your own log of accepted outputs. GlobalGPT credits are a separate billing system; the provider rate tables in this article are not GlobalGPT quotes.
AI Video Credits FAQ
What are credits in an AI video generator?
Credits are a service-specific billing unit for generation and related operations. What you receive for one credit depends on the platform, model and settings; a balance is not a guaranteed number of finished videos.
How many videos can 1,000 credits make?
Divide 1,000 by the quoted cost per attempt and round down. At a hypothetical 25 credits per attempt, that is 40 attempts before other spending. The number you keep depends on how many pass your review.
Can I compare two platforms by their credit allowances?
Only after checking their generation rates, model access and terms. A plan with more credits can still cover fewer usable clips. Compare the same intended task and include retries, finishing work and expiry.
Does higher resolution always double the cost?
No. The relationship depends on the model and operation. Use the provider quote for the exact duration, resolution and mode. The dated examples above show different changes even between models on the same platform.
Do unused AI video credits expire?
It depends on the credit type and provider. Higgsfield subscription credits do not roll over and its Credit Pack credits last 90 days. Runway purchased credits do not expire. These rules were checked on September 7, 2026.
Will a failed generation return my credits?
Check the provider policy and your usage history. Higgsfield says failed jobs usually return credits automatically, with model-specific exceptions. A completed result you dislike is different from a failed task.
Does Unlimited include CLI or automated generations?
Do not assume it does. Higgsfield says its Unlimited access applies on its website; MCP, CLI, Canvas and Supercomputer requests consume credits. Eligible models, quality tiers and active periods also matter.
Can I budget an AI video workflow on GlobalGPT?
Yes. Start with the quote for your exact request, set an attempt limit and track credits spent per approved clip. GlobalGPT uses its own billing units, so do not apply another platform’s credit rate to its balance.
