Eleven v4 vs v4 Turbo: Voice Quality, Speed, Pricing, and When to Use Each

Eleven v4 vs v4 Turbo: Voice Quality, Speed, Pricing, and When to Use Each

Choose Eleven v4 for a finished narration; choose Eleven v4 Turbo when the voice needs to respond as a conversation unfolds. Both belong to ElevenLabs’ expressive v4 family. The useful distinction is the delivery workflow: a polished audio file for a video or audiobook, versus streamed speech for an assistant that cannot leave the listener waiting.

For creators making more than audio, GlobalGPT brings voice generation into the same subscription workspace as scriptwriting, images, and video. That makes it a practical, affordable starting point for a complete campaign. We generated two initial prompts and a cleaner follow-up script with each model in GlobalGPT. The six audio files below show both a common prompting mistake and the practical fix.

Eleven v4 vs v4 Turbo at a Glance

ElevenLabs positions v4 around emotional richness and finished-content quality, and v4 Turbo around expressive real-time speech. Turbo is not simply a promise that every downloaded MP3 will arrive sooner. To benefit from streaming, the application must actually deliver and play the audio in chunks.

Voice Quality, Emotion, and Language Support

For a recorded story, the voice has time to settle into a sentence: pauses, emphasis, and an emotional change can matter more than a short generation delay. That is the job ElevenLabs assigns to v4. A conversational agent has a different constraint. Even a convincing answer feels awkward if it starts too late, so Turbo emphasizes producing expressive speech quickly.

The v4 launch introduces natural-language delivery directions and inline tags for vocal expression and sounds. A direction such as a calm opening followed by an excited final sentence is more useful than asking for a vaguely “better” voice. Keep the spoken script and performance instructions distinct wherever the interface provides separate fields. A plain text box can otherwise turn a direction into spoken words.

  • For product narration: judge the product name, pauses around key benefits, and whether the last sentence lands naturally.
  • For character scenes: use a route with explicit voice assignment; speaker names in a text prompt alone do not guarantee separate voices.
  • For localization: both models support 90+ languages, but test the exact language, accent, names, and abbreviations in your script.
  • For cloned voices: use a voice you own or have permission to reproduce, and confirm the relevant account and voice-cloning access.

The family includes voice-cloning capabilities, but a model’s support is different from a subscription’s entitlement to a particular cloning tool. Choose the voice and access route first, then compare the delivery. If you already use an older narration model, our Обзор программы «Eleven Multilingual v2» provides another reference point for a migration decision.

What “Faster” Means for v4 Turbo

The model documentation quotes roughly 100 ms median inference latency for v4 Turbo. The launch post quotes roughly 150 ms median time to first speech. These describe different parts of the speech pipeline, and neither is a guarantee that a complete voiceover file will download in a fraction of a second.

Our GlobalGPT examples measured complete-task turnaround, including waiting for the generated file. They did not measure first-audio latency or a WebSocket conversation. The results show why a file-generation test alone is a poor way to rank conversational responsiveness: Turbo was not the quicker completed job in either original pair, but it completed the clean-script follow-up faster. That variation across three small pairs is not a stable speed ranking.

Six GlobalGPT Audio Examples: The First Takes and a Practical Fix

We submitted two initial prompts once to each model on October 13, 2026, then added one clean-script pair after checking the spoken text. All six requests returned playable MP3 files; no take was replaced with a reroll. Prompts matched within each pair, but a shared voice ID was not locked. We checked file duration and used local automatic transcription to compare spoken words. That checks content, not naturalness or emotional quality.

Example 1: A Short Product Introduction

The first prompt mixed a delivery direction with the ad script. Both transcripts include the opening instruction, “Read this short product introduction with a calm opening and an excited final sentence.” That makes these first takes unsuitable as finished ads. In a plain speech-text field, write the words you want spoken; put performance guidance in a supported control or direction field.

Eleven v4 — product introduction, 17.006 seconds.
Eleven v4 Turbo — same introduction, 17.162 seconds.

Example 2: A Directed Mini-Scene

The second prompt includes speaker directions and a laugh cue. Both transcripts contain “Speaker one, warmly” and “Speaker two, with quiet confidence.” Writing those labels into a plain text prompt did not create a clean character scene. For a production dialogue, use a supported interface with explicit voice assignment and keep the spoken lines separate from stage directions.

Eleven v4 — directed mini-scene, 14.211 seconds.
Eleven v4 Turbo — same mini-scene prompt, 14.028 seconds.

Example 3: Keep Only the Words You Want Spoken

For the follow-up, we removed the opening direction and submitted only the ad script. Both automatic transcripts matched its words in order, without the unwanted instruction. The resulting files were about 11 seconds long. This is the more useful starting point for a short product video.

Eleven v4 — clean spoken script, approximately 11.15 seconds.
Eleven v4 Turbo — clean spoken script, approximately 11.00 seconds.

Pricing: Compare the Whole Workflow, Not Just a Model Name

ElevenLabs sells subscriptions with credit allowances; GlobalGPT offers a multi-model subscription workspace. Those are different purchasing decisions. A dedicated voice-production team may need ElevenLabs’ voice tools and account features. A creator who also needs writing, images, and video can get more workflow coverage from one GlobalGPT workspace.

Источник: ElevenLabs pricing, checked October 13, 2026; taxes excluded. First-month offers and annual-billing discounts are separate from these regular monthly prices. Credit usage depends on the product and model.

Do not translate a plan’s credit total straight into a v4 Turbo dollar rate without its applicable credit multiplier. The pricing FAQ describes one character per credit for the highest-quality models and roughly 1,000 characters per minute as an estimate. Your actual duration depends on the language, pacing, and script. Model-specific usage and any additional-credit rate need to match the selected plan.

A realistic voiceover budget also includes revisions. For a 1,200-character script, three complete takes mean 3,600 generated characters before you make any shorter pickups. Improving the script first can save more work than repeatedly regenerating a weak draft. In GlobalGPT, you can refine that script with a writing model and then move into audio and visual production in the same workspace.

API Routes, Voice Counts, and Length Limits

If you are building an application, start with the delivery route. The REST Text to Dialogue endpoint accepts an inputs array containing text and voice IDs and returns audio. The realtime Text to Dialogue WebSocket accepts incoming text and emits audio chunks. A model name alone does not make a non-streaming application feel live.

  • Finished dialogue: the REST guide supports up to 10 unique voice IDs. Its endpoint guidance recommends keeping combined input text to 2,000 characters or fewer per request.
  • Realtime Turbo: the realtime guide registers exactly one voice. Generation starts after a text buffer of about 40 characters and eight words; a flush message can trigger a shorter segment.
  • Long-form v4: the model table lists a 10,000-character limit, roughly ten minutes. That model-level figure should not override a smaller recommendation for a particular endpoint.
  • Live interaction: connection setup, network travel, text buffering, and the audio player all affect perceived latency.

Используйте REST dialogue reference for a finished multi-voice file and the realtime dialogue guide for the Turbo streaming path. Match model support and voice settings to the endpoint before scaling a batch. For creator work, GlobalGPT’s audio workflow lets you concentrate on the script and the finished asset instead of building a streaming client.

A Practical Voiceover Workflow in GlobalGPT

Start with the deliverable: a 15-second ad, a one-minute explainer, or a narration segment. Write the spoken text to fit that duration before asking the voice model to perform it. A concise script is easier to compare, revise, and synchronize than a long first attempt.

  1. Draft the script in GlobalGPT. Specify the audience, target duration, pronunciation notes, and one clear call to action.
  2. Choose the audio model and voice settings available in your workspace. Review the displayed generation cost before submitting.
  3. Generate a short first take. Listen for missing words, unwanted spoken directions, names, pacing, and the ending.
  4. Revise the weakest sentence rather than changing every instruction at once. Keep the approved version for comparison.
  5. Download the chosen audio and bring it together with your visuals. If the campaign needs several connected assets, GlobalGPT Холст helps organize the broader creative workflow.

Какой из них выбрать?

For a polished voiceover that you will review and edit, start with Eleven v4. Its official focus matches narration, character work, and expressive finished content. For an assistant that speaks while a conversation develops, start with v4 Turbo and test it through the streaming route your application will actually use.

For a creator building an entire piece of content, the better purchase is often the workflow that gets the script, voice, and visuals finished together. Try the audio workflow in GlobalGPT, begin with a short script, and choose your final take by listening in the context where it will be used.

Часто задаваемые вопросы

Is Eleven v4 better than v4 Turbo?

Eleven v4 is the natural starting point for expressive finished narration. v4 Turbo prioritizes responsive real-time speech. Choose according to whether you need a reviewed audio file or a live conversation, then test your script and voice.

How fast is Eleven v4 Turbo?

ElevenLabs reports about 100 ms median inference latency in its model documentation and about 150 ms median time to first speech in its launch report. These are different measurements. Network, buffering, and playback add to the delay a user experiences.

Do both models support the same languages?

ElevenLabs describes the v4 family as supporting more than 90 languages. Test the names, accent, and delivery in the specific language you plan to publish.

Can v4 Turbo create multi-speaker dialogue?

Check the interface rather than relying on the family description alone. The realtime v4 Turbo guide registers exactly one voice, while the REST dialogue reference accepts up to ten unique voice IDs. Speaker directions inside a plain prompt are not equivalent to explicit voice assignment.

Is there a free way to try ElevenLabs?

ElevenLabs lists a free plan with 10,000 monthly credits. Model access, usage rules, and commercial rights depend on the current plan. A free credit balance is not a guarantee that every v4 feature is included.

Can I use GlobalGPT for an entire video voiceover workflow?

Yes. GlobalGPT brings writing, audio, image, and video models into one subscription workspace, so you can develop the script and supporting assets together. Review the chosen voiceover and your final edit before publishing.
