Coat that reads as fur
Labradors have a short dense double coat. Ask for individual guard hairs catching light along the back, not a smooth plush surface.
Describe the coat, the age and the room, and get a labrador portrait that reads as a real dog rather than a plush toy.

Coat colour, ear set and body weight carry almost all of the likeness.
Chocolate, black, yellow or fox red all sit under one breed, and each has a different sheen. Pick one shade and one nose colour before writing anything else.
Labrador ears hang level with the eye and fold forward. Ask for ears falling beside the jaw and you avoid the terrier look that appears when the model flattens a head.
Describe a broad chest, a straight topline and a thick tail carried level. Without those three the result drifts into a thinner retriever or a puppy.
Ten labradors across coat colours, ages and weather.

Try This PromptSix tells that separate a real dog from a generated one.
Labradors have a short dense double coat. Ask for individual guard hairs catching light along the back, not a smooth plush surface.
One reflected window in each eye makes the head read as alive. Two mismatched highlights are the fastest way to spot a synthetic dog.
Describe a pebbled nose with a slight wet sheen. Perfectly smooth noses are the most common giveaway at thumbnail size.
Big rounded paws with visible toes and a shadow underneath. Floating paws without contact shadows break the whole frame.
A dog in a real room has one dominant source. Two equal sources flatten the muzzle and make the head look pasted on.
Snow melt, lake water or dust should sit on the coat, not behind it. Wet fur clumps; dry fur separates into strands.
We needed a chocolate lab for a dog-food label mock and had one afternoon. The dock prompt gave us a wet coat with individual hairs catching the sun, and the client picked frame two without asking whether it was stock.
My own labrador passed last spring. I described her grey muzzle and the worn leather sofa she claimed, and the first render looked like her at eleven years old. I printed it at A4 for the hallway.
The ear note is what fixed my results. Before that every dog came out with terrier ears; once I asked for ears set level with the eye and folding forward, the whole head finally read as a labrador.
It can get close when you upload a reference photo of your dog and then adjust the description. Text alone gives a convincing labrador, not your particular one, so the face, markings and collar are worth correcting by hand.
Coat length is the usual cause. Ask for a short dense double coat, a thick otter tail and ears set level with the eye, and leave words like feathered or fluffy out of the prompt.
Prompt testing runs on the free allowance shown in the model picker. Higher-resolution renders and repeat batches are paid, and the per-image price is visible before you confirm.
Treat it as your own illustration rather than a photo of a real animal, and keep breed claims accurate. Do not put a real kennel name or an ear tattoo from a real dog on a generated dog.
Long thin shapes and small digits are the weak spots. Frame the dog from the chest up, or place a paw flat on a named surface such as a dock plank, so each toe has something to sit on.
